The State expected 8th grade student to determine if a relationship represented by an equation , graph, table, description or set of ordered pairs is a function. Student must understand the concept of function. What does it mean when we say y is a function of x? It means the value of y depends on the value of x. It means for every value of input x in a function, there can only be one output value for y.

Algebra is very important concept because Algebra equates or connect the physical things by discovering its pattern, relationship, association and finally create general rule, general equation or general theory without touching the physical things. Why is this important? Algebra is important because once the relationship or formula or equation was discovered it can be used to precisely do actual financial or physical transaction. Material waste and financial waste are eliminated by not doing trial and error.
