DATA ANALYSIS AND PROBABILITY is a common core content.Common core content means it touches K-12 students.
The State expected 5th grade student to have early exposure to the concept of data analysis such as interpreting the information or data from the table and analyzing the relevant data derive from the table. Student must learn that table is a summary of collected data trying to tell a message or story to the reader. This is an appropriate challenging question to 5th grader because they now learn that table can tell a story or message about the collected information. The challenging part is making inference or best guess to connect the meaning of the data to answer question or make conclusion from the given information.
The concept of data analysis is very important skill to acquire. More high paying jobs requires training and experience in data collection, data interpretation, data preparation, data extraction, data cleaning and so on. High paying job such as data scientist, data engineer, data analyst are high demand.
